Hey there movie night people!

We are having a movie night revival at Nate and Kim’s place on Saturday, May 26th, 2012 starting at 7:30 pm SHARP! The movie we are hoping to see is October Baby – but it is not yet out on DVD! Wow, Christian movies take a long time walking from the theater to the store shelf! What are they doing, stopping at Starbucks? Does anyone already have a copy? If so – RUSH it into Kim’s hands ASAP. Otherwise we might be stuck watching something from her repertoire (Return to Me sounds fun!) or perhaps a Science Fiction movie with TONS of deep meaning (and crash scenes) that she was forced to watch for her seminary class (The Island). Either way, the night promises to be fun and full – so come prepared to watch and discuss from a Christian perspective. Bring friends, your own lawn chair and a snack to share! Address: 3 Hilltop Circle, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055. Call 717-525-1485 for more info or if you get lost in suburbia.

Dear Friends,

As you pray this week, would you ask that those you interact with might come to understand the simple trust (v. works) God requires:

“[The people] replied, ‘We want to perform God’s works, too. What should we do?’

“Jesus told them, ‘This is the only work God wants from you: Believe in the one he has sent’ ” (Jn. 6:28-9 NLT).

Have you ever wondered at the responsibilities a pastor and his wife carry? Maybe you have watched Nate or Kim or Phil move from work to meetings to study. Would you love them to continue–with zeal–the work they’ve started?

Recently I came across a web page (http://www.reviveourhearts.com/resource-library/30-day-challenges/) that contained a list of 30-day challenges: the links to “31-Days of Praying for Your Pastor” and “31-Days of Praying for Your Pastor’s Wife” stood out. I wonder how our view of our pastors and their wives would change if we committed thirty-one days to pray for them? If you’d like to discover the answer, send me a note. We could start the adventure, even if only two or three of us join together.

Even if these two particular prayer guides don’t stand out to you, another guide might—such as the ones about encouraging your husband or choosing gratitude.

To walk through these thirty-one days, you either sign up (on the web page) for daily emails, about a paragraph long, or you print out all thirty-one prayers at once.

Here is a link to a story about Dave Davecky, who was a major league pitcher from the 80′s. His story tells a tale of him losing his arm in dramtic fashion while pitching. He talks about how he struggled with his identity, only to realize his true identity lies with in Christ.

This next article is about Josh Hamilton. This is a truly redemptive story about a major talent who was wasting his life on drugs. It was only through Jesus that he became the man he is today (as well as an all-star baseball player). He has been actively using his platform in order to tell others about his savior, Jesus Christ. It has a lot more baseball lingo in it, as it was written by ESPN, but still has a great message:

Alone, I couldn’t win this battle. With Jesus, I couldn’t lose.

Here is a sermon from Matt Chandler that is worth your time! According to the youtube link, this message was censored by the church where it was preached. Not sure what all that is about – but the title of the sermon is: God is for God (based on Psalm 23). One of my favorite lines from this sermon: “Don’t feather Jesus’ hair – alright? You’ll bow or you’ll bow.” Enjoy this God-centered, powerful sermon by pastor and recovering brain cancer survivor, Matt Chandler.
