Website Giveaway for 4/4

What are those things called again?  Oh that’s right CD’s.  I wrote Compact Disc on the white board of my classroom the other day and students first commented on how I couldn’t spell the word Disc, which I politely informed them is how you spell this type of Disc and then commented that I must be old.  It was only in 2000 that the CD was in it’s prime; how I long for the good old days of going to The Wall purchasing a CD and having a sticker with a lifetime replacement, but I digress…

Our giveaway for this week is to find out what is playing on your mp3 player (iPod for those not so tech savvy individuals), radio, or hold your breath CD player. We will even let you comment if you are walking around with the banana yellow Sony Cassette Walkman, but we will only accept your comments if it is currently clipped on to your belt and is sticking off to the side of your body like an extra appendage.  So what are you listening to?  Winner receives an iTunes Gift Card.

  1. The band Tim Be Told performed at Messiah this weekend, and I have been listening to their new album Humanity non-stop since then. They kind of sound like Jason Mraz or Maroon 5, but their lyrics clearly display their Christian faith. I’m also listening to Kina Grannis’ “Stairwells” cd, and if I had a working turntable, I’d like to get my hands on The Civil Wars’ “Barton Hollow” on vinyl!

The song that is currently ipod that is being repeatedly played currently is “What are Words” by Chris Medina. It is an EXTREMELY moving song….I get goosebumps everytime I listen to it. If you watched American Idol this season, you know the name….(he was the one that didn’t make it to the top 24 and Jennifer was very upset) if you don’t, see this link
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ehb5nQk5xCo and listen to his story. (you don’t have to watch the whole thing. After you watch that….you should listen to the song. (the first clip explains the story behind his song. )
Here’s the song if you want to listen to it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nQY4dIxY1H4&feature=related

Last week this song “Hold Me” by Jamie Grace & Toby Mac was free on itunes! It’s a fun upbeat love song about the Lord holding us, and I will admit to dancing around to it in the early AM getting ready for work..

Word-FM on the radio in the car. However, I forgot I do own an ipod shuffle, but I just don’t know where it is.

  5. Kim Winters says:

Time for true confessions – I have three Glen Campbell songs on my ipod right now! (He was a huge country and western hit in the 70′s (he was country when country wasn’t cool). Then he had a rough time with the trappings of fame, and got dramatically saved at about the bottom of everything. The songs I love of his are all songs he sang and/or wrote after he became born again. Here is a link to one of them that I will share. Don’t get bored by the intro – that is the way all songs used to be years ago, like a little song appetizer to prepare your mind for the really important words. Nowadays you don’t find that as much – I wonder why? But seriously – hang with it until the chorus – (don’t be SOFT!) and be sure to turn up the volume!! You won’t be sorry.

and on the outside chance you absolutely love this song, the other two are Four Horsemen and Show Me Your Way. (Also very well worth your time and can be found on youtube – I checked!) Love Kim

Just in case you miss it – something I absolutely love about the song above is the line that says (right before the chorus) “I know they’ll welcome me” (talking about heaven). So important to remember – since this world can be so unwelcoming – and Glen experienced that as well. So just wanted to add that – when I hear him singing that line, knowing what I know about his life – it always makes me cry – and then the chorus is so uplifting! Praise God! Okay, thanks for letting me add that. Love Kim

Red Mountain Music….Christian Indie group that sings a lot of hymns. Yes, I know that makes me sound old, but I love them!

  7. Mary Lee Shade says:

My car radio is stuck on the Word FM, but my Ipod favorites are Francesca Battistelli and (yes, I’ll admit it…) Taylor Swift. I also listen to I Am Free by the Newsboys a lot. It’s my favorite song to run to.

  8. Annie says:

An African percussion album called Diyé by a group called Takadja is what I cleaned house to today.

  9. Jason Shapiro says:

I love variety, and there are too many songs to name…..but here are a few of my current favorites:
    - Love Has Come by Mark Schultz (I particularly love the gospel riffing at the end)
    - Masters of Chant CD by Gregorian (to hear “Nothing Else Matters” by Metallica set to Gregorian chant is something to behold!)
    - Anything from the Pixar Cars movie (Andrew’s influence ;)
